Abhinav Swasthya Kendra

Abhinav Swasthya Kendra, operated by Tharu Janjati Mahila Vikas Samiti in collaboration with the Uttar Pradesh Health System Development Project, stands as a beacon of healthcare in the Belsar block of Gonda district. This remarkable initiative, spanning from April 2003 to December 2008, brought healthcare to approximately 20,000 beneficiaries, revolutionizing access to medical services in a region often underserved.

Two health centres were established, each catering to a population of 10,000. These centres were staffed with dedicated professionals, including doctors, Auxiliary Nurse Midwives (ANM), supervisors, and traditional birth attendants (Dai), ensuring that the health needs of the community were met comprehensively.

The project went beyond mere primary care, providing essential maternal and child health services to the people of Belsar. It played a pivotal role in identifying the severity of illnesses and referred cases to appropriate health facilities, ensuring that no one was left without the care they needed.

To promote awareness and ensure the full utilization of available services, the project organized health camps and community events, mobilizing and educating the population about the importance of regular health check-ups. Furthermore, the project’s commitment to delivering services at the doorstep of beneficiaries made healthcare accessible even in the most remote rural pockets of the district.

Community engagement was a cornerstone of this initiative. It empowered the local population to actively participate in the functioning of the health centres, ensuring that the facilities remained sustainable and responsive to the evolving needs of the community. In essence, Abhinav Swasthya Kendra’s collaboration with the Uttar Pradesh Health System Development Project in Belsar block of Gonda district was a testament to the transformative power of healthcare interventions. By establishing health centres, deploying dedicated personnel, and actively engaging the community, this project significantly improved the health and well-being of the people it served, setting a benchmark for healthcare delivery in the region.
