Development of Leadership Potential among Minority Women
The Development of Leadership Potential among Minority Women programme, conducted by the Tharu Janjati Mahila Vikas Samiti in collaboration with the Ministry of Minority Affairs, was a commendable initiative that ran from 2012 to 2017. The programme had a significant impact on 1,975 women from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, aged between 18 to 45 years, hailing from Below Poverty Line (BPL) families.
A cornerstone of this programme was the establishment and fortification of Women Self Help Groups (SHGs) comprising women from economically vulnerable sections. These SHGs provided a platform for empowerment, fostering economic independence and community solidarity among the beneficiaries.
To inaugurate the initiative, a six-day workshop was orchestrated, setting the stage for the entire endeavour. This workshop effectively engaged and inspired all 1,975 women, providing a robust foundation for their forthcoming journey.
A noteworthy facet of the programme was the meticulous training sessions designed to enhance the skills and capacities of these women. These training sessions were carried out in 79 batches, each consisting of 25 women. The training encompassed diverse areas, including leadership, communication, financial literacy, and income-generating activities. Each batch of women underwent a comprehensive six-day training programme, equipping them with the tools and knowledge to empower themselves and their communities. The Development of Leadership Potential among Minority Women programme stands as a testament to the power of collaboration and community development. It has played a pivotal role in uplifting minority women from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, fostering leadership skills, and promoting self-sufficiency, thereby contributing to the betterment of society as a whole.
